Return to all

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear friend, Mr. Paul Dinet, Sr.

Mr. Paul shucked his first oyster when he was 8 years old in his hometown of Grand Bayou. He went on to serve our country in the Army, and upon his return began working at the American Can Company. He then embarked on a 35-year career as Senior Oyster Shucker at Felix’s Restaurant and Oyster Bar on Iberville Street. Mr. Paul started at Felix’s just before the World’s Fair in 1984, and at the age of 85, Mr. Paul was the oldest, and to those who knew him, most endeared Oyster Shucker in the French Quarter.

Always with a smile, and never too busy to tell a story, Mr. Paul lifted the spirits of everyone he came in contact with – customers and co-workers alike. We will miss him greatly.

May his soul rest in peace, and may perpetual light shine upon him.
